#TheRightSwipe2024 - Shawnita

Being home and quarantined for so long forced many of us to turn to the internet and mobile apps to socialize.  Just when the world was beginning to open up again, we found each other on a popular dating site/app. and a simple “swipe right” sealed our fate, it was #TheRightSwipe.

I'd seen the profile of a handsome gentleman, whose screen name was 'Demetrius', several times as the site suggested he was a possible match.  However, I just wouldn't swipe right because his profile indicated he lived in the same town; I had NO desire to exchange pleasantries or share what my favorite color and hobbies were with a fella from the same town, so I continued to swipe left on the handsome fella ‘Demetrius.’

That site though… it just kept reminding me that 'Demetrius' was a possible match for me.

The site suggests possible matches based on common interest, location, and a few other factors; however, in order to communicate, both people must swipe right.

I finally did it, I “swiped right” on 'Demetrius' and as fate would have it, he’d already swiped right on me and was just waiting on me to follow suit! We were a "match.”  ‘Demetrius' quickly sent me a message and introduced himself; he was quite charming and made it clear he was "SINGLE-SINGLE.”

We spoke on the phone and agreed to do a quick meet-up at a local lounge the following day. As you can tell, the meet-up went quite well.  Turns out, he was my "person" and I was his.

And because this is such a small planet we live on, it was quickly revealed that my cousin Tukesia and Darren had been friends for over 30 years. He jokingly tells her he's mad at her for not introducing us to each other years ago.

#TheRightSwipe2024 - Darren

This is what I remember. Sooo it was the spring of 2021, and it was hard to meet someone and date due to the pandemic. At that time, I was very focused on finding a beautiful woman for a meaningful relationship, so I decided to try online dating. I went to a site called POF and immediately noticed a very beautiful woman and swiped right. After reading her profile and seeing that we both had similar likes and dislikes and we were both looking for the same thing, a long-term relationship, eventually leading to marriage, I inboxed that beauty and we exchanged numbers. We talked for a couple of days and decided to meet. When I first saw her, I knew she was the one for me. I did not care about anything else at all. I’m not sure if she realized but I could not take my eyes off her. I wanted to ask her to marry me then, but I did not want to sound like a creep, I can't explain it, I just KNEW. It was a great first date and one of many more. I had to wait to call her (that was my ego, I didn't want to seem desperate or "thirsty" as some would say) even though I did not want to leave her and risk not seeing her again. I think she felt the same way because she did tell me that she did not think I was going to call (and she didn't call me right away either now that I think about it, her ego must've gotten the best of her too!). Mission accomplished! It has been true bliss ever since.

This woman has made me a better man. She showed me that it was ok to open up and let your true feelings out. This is just one of MANY reasons I love her and asked her to be my forever. That place where we had our first date is still our 'go to' for a night out and depending on the night we still sit at the table where we first sat when we met. Shawnita, I truly thank you for swiping right and making #The RightSwipe.

She Said Yes!!

On Saturday May 13, 2023 SHE SAID YES!!!

Moms, that is not her middle finger she's sticking up - look again, lol

All Smiles!

We don't even remember what we were laughing at but this is one of our favorite photos of us. THIS IS US.  We do remember that we were leaving a friend's home and clearly something was quite funny and the friend started taking pictures and this one just happened to be snapped at the right moment.  The pics were texted to us later that day (oh there's more, lol).  We promise you, there’s never a dull moment with us and there's always a reason to smile.

He’s Full of Surprises

I mean, who doesn’t love a great surprise birthday gathering. It was a wonderful evening filled with nothing but love! Darren made the plans and with the help of some close family he orchestrated a perfect intimate gathering. #sweetestthingever  #therightswipe

50th in San Juan

We celebrated my 50th birthday in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I enjoyed every moment and Shawnita made me feel like a King.  Good food, great culture, late nights and us being us; roaming the streets, people watching and sharing plenty of laughs.  I’ve got my own personal travel agent!  I could not imagine doing life without her!

Enjoying the View

Fun fact: I’m not a fan of heights but the view from our condo in Puerto Rico was amazing! We were on a pretty high floor and I MIGHT have been a little shook, but I wasn't scared if that's what you're thinking, lol (yes, there's a difference).  It was a birthday to remember and I got to share it with my best friend!
